It is a bait and switch scam Americas Best is running. The offer is bogus and the employees are trained well not to let you walk out with at least emptying your pockets of $250.

I am most upset . I feel back mailed . When I realized what was going on I was not able to walk out with just the eye exam because it would cost $100. Do not go there.

Got to spread the word and spare anybody else the pain and frustration .

It is shameful that a company does this as common practice. It is illegal, what will it take for the law to stop it.

I just went in, I`m on a budget, I told them and the guy helped me get what I wanted. Sure my old glasses were progressive lens and transitions.

But I knew I could not afford that this time around. I got 2 of the exact same frames, both lined bifocals, one pair had polarized tint, the second pair which is a emergency pair was plain bifocals with scratch resistant lens, and I left under the budget amount I wanted to spend. You have to be realistic.

If you were upsold it`s your fault, enhancements are about the same price everywhere because thats how all eyeglass places make their money.

I've been working here for a few years now. The advertisement is true, however it is a bait and switch.

I really do hate this job. We advertise 2 for $70, then can get written up, fired, talked to, have to do more training if our average ticket per pair of glasses is less than $100.00! That means we do want you to leave paying at least $200.00. We work on commission, so yes, we want to make more money since our base pay is a joke.

You can definitely walk in and out paying only $70.00, but we will push you and try to have you leave paying MUCH more.

Now, I don't meet anyone with any hostility if they walk in and out paying $70.00, but I do get upset.

I would never recommend this place to any of my family members. The exam is so quick and there are so many times of dr. rx changes cause the exam is less than 5 minutes, get you in and out like cattle. The frames and lenses are SO cheap.

If you're on a budget, this is the perfect place, other than that, stay away. But, even with all the up-charges, this place is cheaper

Just went in there yesterday. The exam took about 8 minutes.

They didn't dilate my eyes or anything. After it was done the doctor escorted me out and said to look at lenses while I waiting to be helped. I picked two cute ones from the 69.95 section they had 4 sections of glasses for men women and kids. The girl that helped me was named terrie and she was nice at first.

I showed her the glasses I wanted and she showed me the packages and said I could get them for 104 or 134 depending on how many add on I wanted I said I didn't need any I just wanted to two for 69.95 deal. She then started getting rude and pushy and AGAIN started advertising the expensive packages trying to reel me in. I said I just wanted the basic package she said I needed special lenses for my eyesight and that those were not in the basic package she said I needed thinner lenses. I had never been told that before !

And I have been to two different eye places before Americas Best. I then firmly told her I wanted the basic package! She then stated quiet and started typing she said it would be 70.00 and I handed her the money and she printed the receipt and handed it to me in a very rude way. I could not get out of there quick enough.

Really disappointed on how much they try to push you to pay more. Some advice you CAN ONLY PAY 70.00 you just have to stand your ground and say you want the deal!

No add ons nothing! Just say you want the basic packaga they can't make you pay more!

No Linda, people want to pay for what was advertised.

I went there filled out my paper work, having your eyes dilated cost extra and so does the field test, so if you checked yes to have these done when filling out your paperwork than that costed you extra.. Second when you pick out your glasses and go to pay, they offer you all these different packages and warranties and no glare lenses, and of course that cost extra, what dummy wouldn't know that?

She told me the price i was looking at for just the glasses and eye exam, which was $99.95 and i told her thats all i wanted. So I payed my $104.95 and that's it. You have to be smart.

And if your not sure if something cost extra, ask. America's best is definitely not a scam, it can be frustrating at times because of the wait period to finally get done but when it's all said and done, you can't beat the price.

How did the exam cost you $100 when the exam is $45?

I've been wearing glasses for YEARS! I had insurance and went to vision works.

I couldn't afford to buy Hi-Index lenses (the thinnest lenses) so I had to settle for polycarbonate. Now, I have no insurance and I called around. I know I need the thin lenses (-6.25). What I found out: If I initially went to Am Best instead of vision works, I could've gotten what I wanted for the same price!

2 for $69.95, it says single vision plastic lenses. No bifocal, no anything. If you want to pay that, then pay that. Don't feel "back mailed", pay it then *** about it.

Am Best Hi-index are $132, vision works, $400, and the Am Best comes with a warranty. Other places you have to pay for the warranty. If you want different things, do your research, check it out, then go there. While I was waiting to be seen, there was another lady with a similar prescription.

The person helping wasn't pushy. She showed her what her glasses would look like, how her vision would be and what the doctor recommends.

That's it. No high pressure selling.

No complaints here, I won't go anywhere else. I have 4 pairs of glasses from there never cost me more than $150 with adding on the basic package so that I had anti scratch coating and the warranty on them. And an eye exam is only $60, $45 of it is credited back with the promotions.

Guest

You can definitely get the $69.95 price, but you will probably be met with hostility. I went one time, and after exam and picking my frames, the clerk told me my total was $295.00.

I said I wanted the deal. She said my prescription was not included in that. She'd automatically included extras that I hadn't asked for. Well, I didn't back down, and I got my $69.95 deal.

She tossed my receipt at me and turned and left the desk. Oh well.

by far the worst experience I have ever had!! Bait and switch!!!

After the doc saw me for 10 minutes I was told that instead of 2 pair I should only get one because mine were going to cost $180 a pair!!

I asked about the 2/69..95 deal and was told that my eyes needed more than the deal covered...What does that mean?? I was only there because it's been 4 years and my Rx was outdated...Not like I came in and asked for a miracle or anything...

4 years is a long time to wait for a new RX. Your RX was prob really high.

Went in with my son to get glasses, thinking maybe I would spend about 200.00 total for 2 pairs (2 for 69 dollars but there are always add ons, tax etc. Final bill came to almost 700.00!

We got out of there as fast as we could, paid for the eye exams and declined the glasses. Went to JCPenny's and got two pair for 198.00.

They are running a scam- get you in and try to hook you with the glasses. Run away as fast as you can.

I went to americas best today and the service was terrible. I only paid 90 bucks for both pair.

I told them to give me my frames and the basic lenses. If you paid more than the advertised special you might want to be alil bit more inqusitive about your purchase before you sit down and buy. I think it was a great deal for the money. I wasn't looking to be pampered I just wanted a pair of glasses.

It seem like some places try to get extra money.

If I were you guys that they told needed "special lenses" I wouldn't have paid them a dime unless they made it work for the "special price". Let's stand up for ourselves and not let sales people sale us!

Guest

You feel back mailed?? What does that mean? :grin

Both my sister and i Went to Americas Best in virginia beach of course for the two for 69.95. After everything was said and done, we spent over $350.00.

But the breakdown was w/tax 89.00 for my sister and 279.00 for me. I got the ultra thin lenses for two pair and my sister got the standard deal. Theres plenty of places to get you eyes checked and get glasses.

It's up to you where you go. I will stick with americas best.

Guest

I also went there and i end up paying more than i was told at first. They should level with every one from the begaining so people will no what to exspect. How would they feel if they were told one thing and got another!!!!

I went to an American's Best yesterday. The people were all pleasant enough and there was no one in the store to actually complain to but it was definitely a bait and switch operation which comes from the top; so why break bad on a poor employee?

I went in for the 69 dollar special to get reading glasses. After hours of waiting (yes I had an appointment) I finally got my glasses and was hit for 270 bucks. When I questioned this I was given a run-around.

I felt like walking out with nothing but had spent 3 hours of my Saturday there. I fumed all the way home.

Guest

interesting experiences, sucks i will say, but i went to americas best for the first time yesterday for the 2/69$ deal and exam, they didnt mention anything of special lenses, told me what my eyesight amounted to being 20/40 and 20/50, i picked my two frames out and only paid 69.95 in total and everyone was nice, maybe it just depends on which store you go to?? no complaints here
